In reply to remove tile from slab floor to install hardwood by Bob Valinti on October 18th, 2001 07:41 PM [Go to top of thread]

a glutton for punishment. yes you can remove the tile but it is a lot of work. As far as the hardwood floor...installing real hardwood (3/4" thick) over concrete is difficult. You may need to use laminated wood flooring, that you can glue down, Or use (GASP!) a floating laminate floor like Pergo.

If you are set on removing the tile, get some kneepads, gloves, saftey glasses, 4" cold chisel and a 2# hammer, and bandaids. Get the cold chisel under the edge of the tile, and smack it. Now do you want to do this over the whole floor?

This is the one place that you could put Pergo right over the tile.
