ice damming/ice/water backup

Posted by david riley on January 9th, 2001 04:30 PM

last night kids yell there is a broken water pipe from the upstairs bedroom!? due to recent heavy snows and inability to rake the excess from the roof my relatively new home has ice daming saked insulation and broken drywall and finishes. question is what do i look out for as far as repairs from a professional contractor vs my repairing myself.i am well qualified to preform work i not sure i want to tackle the job. i have inquired with thinsurance comp. for making a claim but am unsure of what to expect from insurance. i didnt even think of the insurance until wife inquired about them. i just figured it was something else to take care of as far as being a homeowner.
so come on experts give up the cavats to having this work done and what should i expect in regards to dump/waste removal, warranty coverage, preventive care/maintanance and do i have to pay up front or is the insurance co going to direct pay the contractor?
waiting with dripping water for the answers.
