But, if the water table fluctuates somewhat then all the pilings would move a bit and therefore the slab would move in unision if you will.

A sure problem is a water leak by one piling or an isolated set of pilions and they rise while the other remaining pilons do not move. This could crack the slab for sure.

Fluctuating soils can have great stress and impact on foundations in general.
