I have always been a believer that heavy coats have inner problems in drying and will dry on the top but take forever to dry in the middle. So, in my opinion, I like more coats of light applications instead of few coats with heavy applications.

Uniform coating will alievate any deviations in the finish and those spots that show up when the light is just right.
