I would first "suspect" the paint

This sounds like a shadowing problem either with a very poor quality paint or the painter did not feather the demarcation line between the cut in brush and the rolled on paint.

The idea that you are just now noticing this is very puzzeling though. This should have been noticed, "if you looked good" shortly after the paint job.

Instead of drywall being a problem, I personally think its the paint.

When painting, ALWAYS use a quality paint from a "paint dealer" not a home center.
