It's not uncommon for drywall laborers to take shortcuts on the job and skip the process of properly taping some of the joints, consequently leaving you the problem to deal with later on. Believe me, I feel your pain. I've had a few of these to deal with on my home too. Cracks in the corners can be easily fixed with a thin bead of caulking. For cracks in other areas...I usually re-tape it with the fiberglass mesh type and then apply 3 or 4 skim coats of joint compound over that. This usually fixes them for good.
