In reply to Chemical stripper vs. exterior paint by Margaret Fite on February 23rd, 2003 01:19 PM [Go to top of thread]

I myself is undergoing the hideous trim stripping. But unfortunately I became frustrated with the strippers and went to the old fashion elbo grease. I tried to use chemicals as well, but found out that it sometimes gets the paint off but also leaves a faint coloring in the wood after words, even after I done what the label says. Apply and purchase our brand of cleaner. But im still finding myself sanding away. One reason because of the leftover color left from the remover, second because of the years and years of wear and tear of dents dings and deep scratches. I decided to go to extremes and pull the molding off and sand away, Im know using the heat gun and it seems to be working for me, BUT! beware old paint can mean old lead so make sure you take the proper safety measure before going to town.
