I'm with Ed. It may be ok on some small DIY jobs.

I don't think that a contractor who has pride in his good workmanship should try to save a few bucks on rebar and remesh. When you have to deal with previous customer recommendations, callbacks, and possible lawsuits, a quality contractor would be remiss to take some unproven shortcuts on someone's driveway or patio.

We have a lot of ground heave from clay soil, I don't think the fiberglass, by itself, will stop the cracking when rebar and remesh still don't stop it all. I talked to one northern cement contractor who now puts plastic and 2" of foam insulation under sidewalks in front of commercial buildings, etc., because the foam cushions the ground heaving which then helps stop cracking.
