A Ford man is with Dodgeman on this. Go to a home cheapo or carpet store and find a color matched carpet for your basement. 3 layers of padding should be enough. Cut the carpet long so it overlaps for now and hold it with Duct tape till a carpet installer can do it. Or else buy the carpet tape, cut the carpet to fit, wrap it around, use temporary duct tape to hold the seam together with the tape behind the seam, and then use an old iron to heat the tape and melt it to the carpet. Have a helper or two and less than $50 bucks and then praise the lord and avoid those dental costs.
