cabinets for my baths and some additional ones for my kitchen and am having good luck with melamine faced particle board. Besides it being cheap, I like looking in the cabinet and seeing all that clean white surface. The cabinet face frames are oak and the doors are oak. The shelves in the cabinets are melamine on the bottom and matching Formica on top with oak (not edge banding) faces. It is all put together with copious use of biscuits and urethane (Gorilla) glue (which I'm finding I really like, Steve!). Careful masking makes the glue cleanup a cinch. If you do work with panels or plywood, make sure you have good sharp blades and score your cuts and put masking tape on the cut line to reduce chipping. Luck, Kizmet
