I tried to do faux marble. I did everything that HGTV said. I sanded my formica, primed with a good primer then I painted using latex and my craft acrylic paints. It looked great then I got to the polyurethane. I looked for one that said that it didn't yellow. Then I tried to apply it. All I got was bubbles and I tried a good paint brush, foam brushed and a foam roller. Nothing worked. I painted on the first coat thinking the bubbles would go away when it dried but, they didn't so I used steel wool, and put on another coat. Then I gave up and steel wooled again to get the bubbles out. And the next spring we replaced the counter top. And the paint did chip during that time. Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
