We have one of these systems. It is made by Hardy. It is placed outside, away from the house. We burn wood in it, even green wood. It heats the water and then the water runs into a system of coils. A fan then blows air over the coils and the air is warmed as it passes over it. Then the air is circulated through your regular duct work. This really saves on electricity because it heats your hot water and you home. As long as you keep the fire going you shouldn't run out of hot water. My dad fills it with wood once a day. We also burn trash in it. To purchase the system and have it installed was around $3000, this is in KY, it could be cheaper where you live.
