Most humidistats are simple switches that can be placed in line (series) with the wire that goes to the cooling relay (very often the yellow or blue wire from the thermostat terminal) so the cooling will only go on if the humidity is high AND the temperature is high


in parallel with the thermostat to the cooling coil if you want the air conditioning to come on if the room is hot OR the humidity is high.
