some roofs that had cedar shakes installed initially may not have been buillt adequately to handle the weight of convential composition shingles. but was able to handle he extra weight of new decking and one layer of shingles. you might have a carpenter check the spacing and size on the rafters given the length that they run too to be sure they can handle the extra load of another layer. to prevent sagging or even damage causing the rafters to tend to spread apart at the edge of the house. Maybe just adding additional purlins (vertical strongback braces in the middle of the span is all that will be required, maybe nothing). But I suggest you consider this potential problem. good luck and post back with your eventual plan . LJ
