How to replacing individual bricks in a chimney

Our chimney has about 30 individual bricks that are failing
(the face has come off and the bricks are slowly crumbling).

I read that I can use a sharp bricklayer's chisel and hammer
and try to remove them for replacement. That seems like
alot of work.

Is there a *mechanical* way to remove individual bricks such
as grinding wheel etc? Or is it better to use a chisel and
hammer?

Thanks,

Derek
