How to Fix Windows

Posted by Trese on May 23rd, 2000 11:53 AM

We have several windows that are broken and won't stay up and one that's broken and won't close all of the way.

The windows are 1980s sliding windows with a spring mechanism on each side. There's a metal tab on each side that is visible from the top of bottom half of the window, but that appears to be the only way to access the spring area. On the windows that don't lock in the up position, the entire side pieces and pully have slid right out and can be removed from the windows. Can anyone give me advice on how to fix these windows? Am I going to need professional help? Or replacement windows? If I knew how to pop one open and put it back together without breaking anything, I'd be happy.
