How to age copper?

I have a copper bathroom sink that has a dark patina (not green)on it, and my kids thought they could use our normal bathroom cleaner on it, and the patina came off -- all the way down to the shiny copper. The patina was artifically applied to the sink when I bought it, and I would like to be able to fix the inside of my sink to match the outside -- but am unsure how to go about doing it. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to achieve this look?
