We are moving into a house built in 1877 and has a gravity hot water system. The seller advised us to replace the boiler as she doesn't like the hassle of having to drain it, but says it keeps the house toasty warm.

We are contemplating whether we want to go ahead and do this, or put the money into our new kitchen and baths.

Providing we don't mind this trouble -- what should we know? Are there any major issues with these systems? How long does an old boiler typically last? The current owner has had it cleaned/serviced regularly. Thanks for your advice.
