How do I re-Program my Craftsman Garage Door Opener?

Hi;
I have a Craftsman (1/2 HP) Garage Door Opener with a wall-mounted console. Would you please let me know how to re-program it? I turn the switch to "Program" and punch in the numbers on the keypad and then switch it back to "Operation", but, it does NOT accept the new code. Please advise.
