How can I convert an older two-slot electrical receptacle to the three-slot grounded type?

Posted by Andre on January 11th, 2000 08:11 PM

I have an old house with a hybrid electrical system-parts of the house have been rewired with grounded receptacles and circuit breakers, but some rooms have the old type two-slot receptacles. Can a novice like myself convert these old receptacles to the the grounded type, without simply using an adapter, and live to tell about it; or should I just spring for an electrician? Can I replace the receptacles with the new type and wrap a ground wire around something? Like what? Thanks for your help.
