Hi Doug,
I've recently had to wire a old house and what I found, in addition to what Brian said, is to use the catagory 5 telephone wire with four twisted pair. Also, another important thing is to avoid running the electrical parallel to the tv and telephone wires. They need to be at least a foot apart or, if they must be next to each other, run the tv and cat 5 in a metal conduit.
