When my hot water heater is heating the water after a shower or other hot water use, I hear popping noises inside the tank. The popping sound is very similar to the popping of hot cooking oil in a deep fryer. What could be causing this sound? Is this an indication of my hot water heater needing maintenance? If so, what maintenance is needed?
