Home security is always a good idea, but a couple of items need to be mentioned.

Keeping the bushes trimmed low, especially around windows and entrance-ways is very important. You want to minimize the locations where an intruder can hide. All contractors will over-landscape a yard. The yard will look good for a few years, but will look like a "jungle" later. Don't let them do this! It gives the bad-guys nice hiding places.

Do not install stickers on the windows or doors that advertise the brand of security system you are using! This is not a deterent--it is simply advertising to the intruder how to defeat the system. I see this sillyness done over and over. Why not leave a schematic of the system at the front door while you are at it?

Bear in mind that effective home security is more than installing an electronic monitoring system. It should be done in "layers" using the security system, external motion lights, channelling access to the home, etc--which is too much to properly discuss in this forum.

Good luck and stay safe!!
