An interesting idea. If you run them in series, youll need a way to 'switch' between the 2 when the hot water (temporarily) runs out of one of them. Then, switch back, and so on. If you run them in parallel, then you need to 'break up' the plumbing so 1 unit services half the house, and the other unit services the other half. I think you can do the latter fairly easily if you want to install 2 tanks. My $.02 is to get 1 tank to service the entire home's need. (That's how it was built and plumbed.) You'll have 2 service contracts (perhaps), 2 tanks that can go bad, and more than you really want. I'd only do this is the house was plumbed for 2 tanks. I've never heard of anyone wanting to do an after-the-fact project such as this. (And then I don't hear much anyway ...)
