High Water Table-Finishing Basement

Posted by Denise on June 12th, 2000 09:50 PM

Help. We dug up the concrete floor in our basement only to find that we are at a high water table. We want to put in a bathroom and dug 3 feet down for a basin and pump to pump up to the sewer line. The 3 foot hole filled up with water. Ain't that special? I've emptied that hole out so many times and every morning I go down and it's filled with water again. Well, I guess that water isn't just going to go away now is it??? Okay, so I'm hearing that we should weigh down the basin with blocks, pour our new floor and then bolt the basin to the new floor. The water will always be there, but is this going to pour into my basin and cause my pump to run 24/7? Is it going to overflow my basin so that I have unsanitary sewage coming up? Does anyone know anything about this very specific problem? Does anyone wanna buy a house before it floats away? Thank you.
