I think fooling with the computer is a waste of time unless you get off on that sort of thing.

If you have a limited number of shapes, you could make cardboard samples and experiment with them for optimal placement. Its up to you whether you want a repeating pattern or not.

If the stones are all different sizes, then you must place them using the trial and error method. Make sure that you evenly distribute the large pieces over the entire area for a uniform look.

If it were me, I would go with an exposed aggerate look using cement. However, that is not an easy task.

Whatever you decide, remember that appreciate is spelled with a C.
