You'll read my $.02 in the following posts when it comes to painting brick, inside or out. 1) Painted brick becomes a maintenance item. 2) Around the fireplace, well, you're gonna have real fun cleaning it from your paint because you'll more than likely discolor the paint under the soot from all your scrubbing. 3) Brick is a maintenance-free item. 4) (There's more ...)

You might want to consider just cleaning the brick first. I'll bet there's a real shine under there, gray, dull, or not! For all practical purposes, you'll lessen the value of your home. As per Henry in MI, I'll help you out to help persuade you to not paint the brick. Here ya go ...

What It Takes To Clean Painted Brick
Brick and Paint I
Brick and Paint II
Brick and Paint III
Brick and Paint IV
Brick and Paint V
Brick and Paint VI
Brick and Paint VII

My best to ya and hope this helps.

Jay J
