Help with door hinges and bathroom sink

Posted by Lisa on May 2nd, 2002 09:21 PM

I have two problems.
1-The hinges on our inside doors (closets, pantry, rooms) are dropping some kind of black power on the hinges themselves and on the floor/carpeting. I have tried to clean them (with damp paper towels) on the outside of the hinges and I have even taken the door down and cleaned the inside where the pin is but the power still keeps coming. Any help?

2-We have a double sink in our master bath (not real marble). Every once in a while there would be a light white powdery dust under the sinks. I just recently had this happen again and this time the powder was much worse. The underneath of the sink basins are very pitted. When I went to wipe the underside of the sink it started to chip a little bit around the pits. You can touch the sink basin underneath and get the white powder on you hands, so I am assuming that is where the powder is coming from. Any help in fixing this problem and also wondering if the powder substance is dangerous to touch or inhale??!!!!

Thank you!
