Help on Best substrate for faux cement/stucco porch support column

Posted by Pete Wolf on May 20th, 2002 09:42 AM

Currently porch roof is supported by wrought iron. I am planning to augment the iron with a jack post (about 8') and boxing in the affair with presure-treated 2x8. I would like to face this column with cement/stucco to blend into the rest of the porch (stone). My thought was to face the column with cement board and 'plaster' it over with tinted mortar/stucco mix. Will the cement stick and hold to the cement or is it better to use stucco 'screening' over the wood without the cement board??

Thanks for any help!
