Hi,Just bought a new house. Was told by previous owner...no basement water but we were a tad suspicious to see they owned 2 extra sump pumps. Yesterday, we had a heavy rain storm and water seeped in under the raised hearth and along the wall next to the fireplace, admtting buckets of water. Problem: we have only 12 feet to fool with to the neighbor's property line. on the side with the leak, and then the land slopes up to his house, a few feet in elevation.
They have a huge parking lot , all slanted towards OUR house and not the road. The drive for it slants this way and towards the road. Naturally, sheets of water run off the drive, down the hill and into the side of our house. There is the meerest hint of a swail/drain with stone, on the property line but water just lies there and all over the back yard. Our front yard is slightly mounded to accomodate a septic system so we are limited as to where to cut a drain to the road, if that is called for. To top it all off......nasty clay soil with abomidable percolation!
Any suggestions, other than lifting the whole house 6 or 8 feet and putting it on stilts as I will have to call in pros to deal with this and don't want to get ripped off. We have been taken with lots of things in this house, already.
