If your vent is at ceiling level, it will naturally be colder below ... Heat rises.

hopefully the vent is pointed downward. There those plastic covers that are designed to blow air in a specific direction that are magnetized and stick to the vent .. this may help blow the hot air down but heat vents on the floor are best.
