Header for patio arbor

I would like to build a cover for my patio, I think some people call it an arbor. Well, I can sink posts for 2 of the four corners into the yard, however, I am having trouble deciding how to attach the other end at the house. I can either put posts right on the concrete patio (one would be close to the door because of an adjacent overhang) and the other would be out of the way, but near another overhang. I have brick veneer that goes up about 8 feet above the overhangs and siding above the brick.
Can I safely attach a header board directly to the brick veneer and will it carry the load of a typical arbor...2x8 joists with 1x2 as a partial shade roof? If so, what is the best method?
