He Phebe,

If the pump is not running a 'lot', then chances are good that you don't have much of a 'water/moisture' problem. However, there is moisture that permeates the walls and floor nonetheless. We already 'talked' about putting down the plastic sheet for a few days. If you simply got condensation, then you should be fine. Talk to the contractor as to whether or not you should have the floor SEALED first or not.

Other than that, I think you're safe in taking the contractor's word on this. My best to ya and hope this helps.
