Have an electrical question

Posted by Steve: on December 23rd, 2001 01:12 PM

during our Spring and Fall seasons, we have alot of nasty storms that occasionally knock out our power for extended times. Then in the Winter we have those ice storms that break tree limbs and break utility lines.

I have a work shed, so to speak, with a dedicated line from the service box to the home running out to my work room, WITH a switch on the inside of the room that powers up and powers down the entire room.

What I want to do is to tie in after the switch, so my geny does not power backwards to the home, and install a pig tail to tie into my geny.

Not knowing much at all about electricity, I want to install a junction box after the switch to break my loop and then to install another line coming off that. Then I want to run that line into a switch and off that switch I want to run a short pig tail with a male fitting to then plug into my geny.

Will this thinking work? I do need a switch after the junction box to keep the male recepticle from being hot all the time,,,, correct??

I appreciate the feed back.

Merrry Christmas
