Most garage door openers are designed for relatively light loads since the doors are "counterbalanced" with springs. The actual load an opener could lift with reliability is probably in the order of 50 pounds or less. Otherwise, it sounds like not a bad idea. You would have to make sure the proper safetys were in place, in case of a jamb, or kids playing, etc.
