Hardwood vs laminate floors

Posted by Marko on March 4th, 2001 10:50 AM

We are considering remodeling our house and plan on
removing the existing carpet and wood flooring in the
lower level of our house and replacing with one common
wood or laminate flooring material. We are lifting the
old hardwood (15 years old) because we have been told
that we would not be able to find matching wood (it was
originally a dark oak which we had sanded down and
lightened 4 years ago when we bought it). We have
heard that some of the laminate flooring and glue down
systems curl and pull up after awhile and we also have
heard that it doesn't hold up to dog and cat traffic
(scratches). I am rying to make an informed decision
on what's the best approach. I would also be interested
in what the cost/sq ft (including installation) might
be. Is there any difference, really, in the major
hardwood brand names(Bruce, Armstrong etc)? I don't
feel I get an unbiased answer from the hardwood
retailers. Can someone help? Thanks, Marko
