I intend to install about 650 sq ft of 3.5 inch t&g old growth southern yellow pine flooring over an existing, albeit in very good condition, vinyl sheetgood floor in the kitchen. The flooring is newly cut from salvaged framing material available when the old Segrams Distillery in Baltimore was demolished. The wood is hard and very old.
Any recommendations in laying the floor would be appreciated. I intend to lay the floor using flooring nails directly over the existing vinyl without the use of rosin paper. Is this OK. I will finish sand the floor and coat with multi layers of water based polyurethane varnish. Are there any books available and recommended on this subject.
