Hi, George. There is not much that you can do to overcome the natural forces of expansion and contraction at work. Some varnishes are more forgiving but you probably don't want to scuff sand and apply more varnish at this point. If you try to put a filler in the cracks, when the boards expand and contract with the changes in humidity you will permanently compress the wood leaving bigger cracks eventually.
