hardwood flooring installation

Posted by jimih on July 10th, 2001 11:33 AM

i plan to install 6" wide plank flooring with a 2 or 3 wide border of the same planks. i have a fireplace in the center of the room that i want the border around also. i will blind nail in the tongue side. where do i start so all corners will line up without cutting the width of the planks? do i start in the center of the fireplace and work out, so the border corners line up with the other flooring? do they make a tongue to fit in the grooved side of the first board so i can nail both sides, or can i just use biscuits? will the floor buckle or open up since it's nailed in opposite directions? i've seen pictures of boards being installed inside of already fastened borders. do they just glue down the last piece?
