Either the retailer you were at didn't sell Bruce flooring or his markup wasn't as good. Like Ron J. said the waste is in the cutting for install. Go with the better warranty. Make sure that the wood is in your home for at least 3 days prior to install, open boxes.
As far as in the kitchen, be prepared for faster wear any place that you stand alot, in front of the sink, stove, etc.
Also keep in mind that water is woods worst enemy. Clean up any spills right away, and DO NOT DAMP MOP IT!
