Patty, We are in the process of finishing the installation of Hardie Plank siding on our home. We have been very impressed with the ease of installation and the quality of the product. We started our project last October the Hardie Plank held up prefectly through the winter. There was no shrinkage, warpping, twisting absolutley no movement at all as you might see in wood or vinyl siding. We tested the board ourself, we soaked the board for 2 days in a bucket of water and found that it did not absorb any moisture. We used a carbide tipped blade in a circular saw to trim the boards to length. Hardie plank comes in 12' lenghts so the seams were minimal. It also comes primed which made the painting a breeze. Our neighbors we also impressed with this new product. Our house looks great. It is also fire resistant and termite proof. We think this is a wonderful alternative to vinyl siding. It has a real wood grain look and is much more durable than vinyl. It comes with a 50 year warranty. What more could you ask for.... The cost is extremely reasonable too. The Hardie Plank phone # is 800-512-7343.
Good Luck!!
