Please, Cyndi. Don't you do a thing to it. Take it to a real expert, not the local antique store, and ask them first what they think about restoring it. Really, on a piece like that, you could lose thousands of dollars in value. If the finish is shellac, it is easily cleaned, but don't do it until you find out how much you might hurt the value.
