Hampton Bay Fan Remote Control

I purchased the fan but with a separate Hampton By Remote Control. After installing the 2nd remote, it still is very hard to work. No light dimming and you have to be within 3 feet of the fan housing to get either the fan or light feature to work.The manual says itwill operate up to 30' away!

Can you please tell me a "Fix"?
