grouning outlets

I have a GFCI recepticle with one outlet and one switch (a new concoction I am told). There are only two wires coming out for the light switch attachment. Shouldn't there be a third or is that the whole purpose of that type of recepticle (to compensate for the outlet being ungrounded)?
Also, what should I do with the sheathed electrical cable ground wire that will be left over?
