Hi, Pam. Look down the board for a topic--"Gouges in my hardwood floor" posted by Bob on 10/13. There should be plenty of info for you there. It will help quite a bit if you know the color and brand of stain used on your floor and the type (oil based or water based)and brand of clear finish. The basic procedure will be to fill the gouge, sand it filler smooth and feather the current finish out for 3-4 inches around the filler, stain, apply a couple of coats of clear surface finish in the sanded area. Follow the instructions on the label for each product that you use and clean the area after each sanding.
