Thanks for the suggestions. The window was glass block, couldn't open it. Didn't have a fishing net, but used something similar: We trapped it in one of the windows, then held a large sheet (between the two of us) covering the opening to the window. It took some patience (and great arm muscles), but we eventually closed the area around the bird until I was able to put both hands around it. How did we lure it out of the ceiling? When we had given up the night before and collapsed, we ordered pizza. For some reason, the hawaiian pizza leftovers were appealing to the blackbird (crumbs didn't work). He came out to nibble at the pizza box, then we closed all the routes to the open ceiling area to trap him in a window area.
