Your are so right about the joists--hadn't thought about that. thank you for your response and no, the house is not historic-i just wanted to make sure- since I am doing the work myself-that i am not doing things the wrong way, ie. cheap/cookie cutter or not in keeping with the home's originally intended character, which is what attracted me to it to begin with.
I will keep in mind what you said about the "visual attributes of the home", another good point. Thanks again
