My wife & I just did wine glasses, put stickers on the areas we didn't want etched, etc. The stuff we bought comes pre-mixed, a thick paste stuff, we got it at a craft store, called Michael's, although I think nat'l chains like Franks, etc., carry it. I can't remember the brand name exactly, but check a place like that first. If you can't find, I'll chk the name next trip to the store. It was simple and included instructions. Basically, you put the stickers, contact paper, etc, on the areas you want to remain clear, the rest gets smeared with this paste, after 'x' minutes you wash it off. Done. It came out great, although I have to say, don't try to skimp on the paste. On one glass, we did too thin a coat and you can see the brush markes it was put on with - others we did a thinker coat, and came out much better.
