Steve and Jason's are correct.A GFCI does the job at protecting one from getting electrocuted. If you want protection for your Computer system,then you should get a UPS battery backup system.You hook your A/C section of your tower,monitor and any other vital part of your system you would deem necessary.This will protect it from any spikes or power loss due to storms.
They run about a $100. to 125.....but there worth it. I have one and never have any trouble with loss of data or damage to my PC. My neighbor's on the other hand have had to have repaires done and even buy new tower's. Good luck
