Greetings Sleeman,

I would buy the GFCI tester.

They are handy to have and they are cheap!

As Steve states they go for about $5.

All you need to do is plug it into the outlet.
There should be three lights on it that will tell you if it is wired correctly.

You would press the small button on it and you should hear a small click and the red button on the outlet should pop out and it should cut off the power to the outlet.

Pressing the red button in, should turn the power back on again.

If you have a GFCI outlet installed in a two wire circut, it will not work!

I would be leary of your power strip. Does the light come on when you plug it into another outlet?

Buy the tester, plug the power strip into an outlet that you know is not GFI'd, then plug the tester into the strip and check it out.

Good luck,
